Charles Lindbergh carried a Crescent Adjustable Wrench on The Spirit of St. Louis

Crescent is a premier hand tool brand from Apex Tool Group, one of the largest hand tool manufacturers in the world. The brand is often associated with its most famous product, the Crescent® brand adjustable wrench. Since its introduction in 1907, the Crescent adjustable wrench has grown to be one of the most essential tools in the toolbox of generations of professional tradesmen – well-known and well-regarded as an iconic hand tool that was proven and reliable. In fact, after his historic solo transatlantic flight in 1927, Charles Lindbergh was quoted saying he carried only “gasoline, sandwiches, a bottle of water and a Crescent wrench and pliers.”

In 2017, the Crescent brand was expanded to include four other famous brands from Apex Tool Group. Today, professional tradespeople can select from Crescent® wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, mechanics hand tools, and tool sets, Crescent Lufkin® measuring tools, Crescent Wiss® scissors and snips, Crescent Nicholson® files and saws, and Crescent H.K. Porter® cutting tools. Over2,600 quality tools they can count on to produce professional results … all with the trusted Crescent name.

Crescent. Trusted by the Trades.

A Brief History of Crescent

Crescent Tool Company founded in Jamestown, New York, USA by Karl Peterson.  Mr. Peterson was President from 1907 to 1933.  Born in Malmo, Sweden in 1866.

Crescent Adjustable Wrench Engineering drawings dated back to 1908, illuminates the fundamentals of the first adjustable wrench produced in America.

The company was kick-started by Detroit and the Ford Model T.   An adjustable wrench and slip-joint pliers (MoToR KiT) was supplied with every car.

Crescent introduced Crestoloy® alloy wrenches at the request of the US Army Air Corps. Crestoloy and similar alloys soon replaced carbon steel as the preferred material for the manufacture of hand tools.

Fighting for freedom - Seabees always had the proper sized wrench because they carried Crescent® adjustables wherever they went.  100% of production went to the war effort.
